Hi, I’m Gina! I’m a mat Pilates instructor and licensed physical therapist assistant with 30 years of experience in hands-on patient care. In my role with Balance & Birch, I combine my PTA experience, knowledge of movement and therapeutic exercise, and medical background to teach you specific exercises and activities that help improve your daily life or aid in recovery following an illness or injury.
Here’s a deeper dive into my personal & professional journey. My first brush with physical therapy began at 13 after a severe back injury from gymnastics, sparking my passion for sports medicine and rehab.
I started my career in outpatient sports medicine, treating a variety of injuries and post-op conditions before transitioning into home health, where I gained a deeper understanding of functional mobility in real-life settings. Along the way, I fell in love with Pilates and became certified in mat instruction, blending it into my therapy practice to help patients move better and feel stronger.
After relocating to Seattle in 2017, I expanded my expertise in work injury rehab, Myofascial Release, yoga-based movement, and nutrition, always emphasizing a holistic, patient-centered approach. In 2023, I stepped away from clinical care to prepare for a long-planned move to Italy and shifted my focus to health-based content writing. While writing allows me to educate and inspire, I miss the personal connection and rehabilitation of patient care.
Now, as a functional exercise instructor and therapeutic exercise specialist, I get to do what I love—helping people move better, feel better, and take charge of their health.

Pilates
Pilates is a low-impact workout system that emphasizes core strength, alignment, and controlled movement. Through deliberate exercises focused on proper technique and fluid motion, Pilates helps improve posture, enhance balance, and build a stable foundation to support everyday activities and overall fitness.
