My Approach

I founded Balance & Birch because I was tired of watching clients bounce between disconnected providers, Google rabbit holes, and surface-level advice that never addressed the real issue. People deserve coordinated care where they can explore themselves without so much confusion.

The birch tree symbolizes that philosophy. Birches are flexible and resilient; they bend without breaking. They thrive in harsh environments, regenerate quickly, and create entire ecosystems of new growth. To me, they represent what healing really is: gentle strength, adaptation, and the ability to rebuild from the roots up.

My therapeutic approach reflects that. I’m integrative by design, meaning I pull from sex therapy, schema therapy, imago, trauma work, mind–body science, and behavioral strategies. I have a doctorate in clinical psychology, a doctorate in clinical sexology, and am AASECT certified as a sex therapist. I’m direct, transparent, and collaborative. I use humor, metaphor, and clear feedback because therapy should feel like an honest conversation rather than a rehearsed script or a blank wall. My own humanity enters the room, and that is a crucial element of what I believe makes progress realistic and doable. I do not ask clients to do anything I wouldn’t do myself.

I believe in working at the level of the pattern, not just the problem. We’ll explore the emotional, relational, cultural, and physiological layers that shape your experience and build tools that support real, sustainable change.

And because I am a human who works from home, you’ll occasionally meet my dogs, Tucker and Boba, who make surprise guest appearances in virtual sessions. They’re chaotic, loving, and completely convinced they run my life (honestly, they’re not wrong). Luckily, their appearances often add a moment of levity that clients end up loving.

Therapy with me is grounded and practical and I’ll always tailor our work to who you are, not who you think you “should” be.
